Referral & Fee Info.

  • AB Psychology Services is not a bulk billing practice.
  • Fee information can be discussed at the time of making your appointment.
  • In special circumstances where financial hardship exists, a reduced fee and at times bulk billing arrangement can be negotiated.

  • You DO NOT need to obtain a referral from your GP to see a Psychologist and if you choose this option, your session fee will need to be covered by you privately.

AB Psychology Services is a Medicare registered provider

The Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative provides access to psychology services through Medicare under a Mental Health Treatment Plan which you can seek from a General Practitioner, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist.

When making an appointment with your GP for the Mental Health Treatment Plan assessment, it is recommended you request an extended consultation.

If you receive a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or medical specialist, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December).

l

On the day of the consultations

you will be required to pay the full fee (unless a bulk billing arrangement has been made). We are able to process your rebate on site following your consultation.

l

If you have a private health fund

please contact them in advance of your appointment to discuss funding for psychological services .   Where services have been arranged under a Mental Health Care Plan, the Medicare rebate is ordinarily higher than that provided by any of the private health funds.

l

If you are a Queensland Ambulance Service staff or staff family member

QAS Priority One will fund your sessions.  Four sessions are automatically approved where this amount of sessions is deemed appropriate by the Psychologist.  If further sessions are necessary, this can be arranged.
